Tell us something unique to you : Ever since I was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes at the age of 5, there were things I did not think I would be able to accomplish due to insulin injections, nutrition constraints, and lifestyle limitations....Until a few years ago. I had been on an insulin pump since 1999 but then came along glucose sensors....and my an idea from my younger brother. I am very competitive, with others and internally with myself. When my brother said, hey, my girlfriend and I are going to run a half marathon, there was no way I was going to let him show me up! I had trouble with a couple miles at that time, but I trained and began running them regularly! Then in 2016 I decided I wanted to run a full marathon - THIS was one of those things I had always thought was unobtainable with diabetes. I trained on my own and ran the Long Beach marathon on October 9, 2016 (4:24:46)! The hard work, emotion, overall feelings were EPIC. And so after a little breather, the competitor in me told me I had to choose my next goal while I continued to enjoy running. Enter Sandman, I mean Triathlon (bad music joke :-P). Training independently for a marathon I found to be VERY demanding so when I decided to set a goal of a Half Ironman, I sought a coach and by pure luck, happened to find Coach Cliff without even knowing the connection to my background. I have now completed a couple sprint type triathlon events and am addicted! I am driven by my desire to prove next level accomplishments to no one other than myself and love sharing the experiences with everyone and the fact that anything really is within reach with the right midset, motivation, family, inspiration, and support.

What are your goals?: To stay active, constantly strive for new goals and achievements, and to enjoy these sports, learning the strategy, techniques, and camaraderie in the tri-life culture
