Ironman FLORIDA
SWIM
Strong currents can be a factor and have shortened races in the past and even cancelled the swim.
Come out of the water and go under the arch to continue to loop 2.
Draft!
Some small waves to large on the return in.
BIKE
Wind is key to target on this course… knowing when it is in your face vs at your back.
Get low… stay low…. shake out the back and legs and get up out of the saddle to keep the body fresh. Do this ~ every 2-4minutes.
Wind picks up throughout the day…. early on it is light.
Pedal and pedal coast. ...to maximize your bike 🚴🏻♂️ and run 🏃🏻♂️ two important concepts "Wind-sheer controlled riding💨 and also "Riding draft legal" 🚴♀️💨....🚴🏻♂️
Mi 60-67 some “punchy” in the face wind on the out and back! Watch your HR and Power meters.
Mi 98-112 can be wind in your face when you are riding back to Panama City Beach along the coast. Be prepared for this harder section. …be prepared for winds to also “not materialize.”
run
This is one of the flattest runs on the IRONMAN circuit. Spectators fill the roads on the two-loop course, which parallels the shoreline through local neighborhoods to the turnaround in St. Andrews State Park. The sun sets early this time of year, so you may want to toss a long-sleeve shirt into your special needs bag.
Loop one settle in go easy
Loop two “where am I at” and can I go slightly faster? .. harder for sure!
Wind considerations and drafting..
